Beauty Essentials: Shadow Switch

Question: How many brushes do you use when applying eyeshadow? 3? 4? More?

I probably use about 4 or 5 depending on the look I’m trying to create. So when I was offered the chance to try out Shadow Switch by Beauty Essentials*, of course I readily accepted. Shadow Switch is a dry brush makeup cleaner which lets you use just 1 brush for multiple shades – how awesome is that!

Usually when I’m experimenting with my new eyeshadow palette or creating swatches for blog posts, I tend to have a handful or brushes or applicators on standby as I’m so afraid that I’m going to “contaminate” all the pretty colours by not having clean brushes. But when I tried Shadow Switch, I couldn’t believe that I could just use one brush for multiples shades – just take a look!

First, you’ll see that my brush is clean (it was new!) and I apply the black shade first. I make sure I properly smudge it in as you would when applying eye makeup. Then when I was done, I simply swiveled and swirled it around the black sponge and hey presto! – you can see that the brush is clean again. Just to make sure that it really was clean, I now apply the champagne shade. Normally by now (learned by previous tragic experiences) if my brush wasn’t 100% clean, the lighter shade would have a greyish/dull hue to it, but it seems that it has worked a treat!

Now, in all seriousness, Shadow Switch really is a brilliant idea and it works, but – now here’s the but, Shadow Switch is not an alternative to cleaning your brushes completely. It only takes away the need for having to use multiple brushes at once. You will still need to clean your makeup brushes on a regular basis to eliminate dead skin, oils, bacteria, etc, and you’ll even need to wash out your Shadow Switch too. Simply wash out with warm water and soap and leave to dry and you’re good to go!

    1. I used to use a tissue in between shades, but it never used to get it all the powder out. I couldn’t believe how well this worked!
